Getting to the Thanda Game Lodge
The Thanda Private Game Reserve is situated 23km north of Hluhluwe on the N2, towards Mkuze, approximately 300km north of Durban. The Thanda Game Reserve is easily accessible from the N2, with a gravel road, the D242, going westward approximately 5 kilometres to the Thanda gate.
The closest airport to Thanda is Richards Bay, and guests arriving there can be transferred to the lodge by prior arrangement. Overseas guests coming to stay at the Thanda Game Lodge usually fly to Johannesburg and a connecting domestic flight takes them to Richards Bay, where the Thanda staff will await them.

The Thanda Private Game Reserve is situated about 23km north of Hluhluwe in northern Zululand, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Guests staying at the luxurious 5 star Thanda Game Lodge will experience a celebration of the Zulu people and their rich culture while having the opportunity to learn more about South Africa’s history and traditions.
The name “Thanda” means “love” in Zulu. Purchased as a cattle farm, which was heavily infested with alien invasive plant species, the land at the Thanda Private Game Reserve is in the process of being restored to re-establish the natural equilibrium.
