There is a lovely swimming pool to cool down in and around which the kids can socialise.
Guests enjoy twice daily game drives in the early morning and late afternoon when the wildlife is most active. You may be lucky enough to spot the Big 5 and their will be plenty of other species to view along the way. The guide will also educate you on the Amakhala conservation ethos and other diverse aspects of the ecosystem.
You might also like to enjoy a gentle walking safari, during which the emphasis is more on the signs of animals that have passed as well as learning about the magico-medicinal uses of various plants.
Sunset cruises and canoeing are also options that can bring you close to wildlife, and these are conducted on the slow moving Bushmans River.
It is recommended to wear long-sleeved clothing in the evenings and to use insect repellant. The lodge is malaria-free.

An Initiative of the Amakhala Game Reserve
The Amakhala Conservation Centre is largely funded through bed levies from the commercial lodges and donations and has three main objectives:
to promote environmental awareness and impart knowledge of the environmental, economic and cultural importance of wildlife, wild areas and the functioning of natural ecosystems.
to identify and support research projects that provide ecological and social information relevant to the management of the reserve and to wildlife conservation in general.
to encourage and advise on various conservation projects which will ensure the conservation of biodiversity and functioning of ecological systems.
Following on the successful re-introduction of 15 species onto Amakhala the conservation centre continues to investigate the reintroduction of other species like Cape vulture into the area.
