★ ★ ★ ★ ★

AmaKhosi Safari Lodge, translated from Zulu means The Place of the Kings, offers attentive service and absolute luxury in the beautiful surroundings of Zululand that bear testimony with the renowned Mkuze River in KwaZulu-Natal. Boasting 12 010 hectares, the Amakhosi Private Game Reserve is made up of a diverse ecosystem.

The diversity found in this wildlife-rich reserve includes savannah, mountains and wetlands which make it the ideal home to Africa’s Big-Five as well as giraffe, warthog and hyena beside the over 15 different antelope species, hippopotamus, and crocodile. The wetland surroundings offer no less than 400 bird species; this Lodge in KwaZulu Natal is a place of paradise and comfort.

The staff at the AmaKhosi are as much part of the experience as the exquisite surroundings. At the heart of the Lodge is the most luxurious blend of river frontage. The riverbank houses the main lodge and, therefore, provides the magnificent regal River Suites with unique views of the flowing Mkuze River.

Guests can slip into an African Dreamland with high thatched ceilings and glass walls celebrating the open African sky. The en-suite bathroom with a different bath made for two is decorated with an array of candles and bath salts allowing decadence to take on a whole new meaning and bringing serenity to your stay.

A blend of savannah, wetlands, and mountains, being home to the "Big 5" Cheetah as well as 15 species of antelope, and over 420 species of birds can be seen along with an impressive variety of frogs. The animals are thriving at the Reserve despite the dryness there are still many beautiful dams. It is marvellous how lucky the cheetahs are.

The AmaKhosi elephant herds have joined for the time being and have provided guests with hours of fun and entertainment as they wade through the bush satisfying their hunger and thirst. There is no better way to enjoy an African sunset than watching a herd of elephants enjoying their evening bath at one of the dams. Early morning and late afternoon guided walks and safari drives take guests staying here into the African bush to observe the animals and their unusual behaviour.

The abundance of flora and fauna always reveal something impressive, both on the ground and in the air. Certified AmaKhosi rangers introduce the unique role each animal plays on the large stage within the African Kingdom. For those guests who prefer to relax at the Lodge, there is a library, swimming pool, viewing deck and an outdoor lounge overlooking the flowing Mkuze River.
