Chundu Island, Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe is a 1.5 km long island on the Zambezi River, only 22 km from Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe.

With eight suites under trees on the island banks, Island is a place to rest and experience nature and one of Africa’s largest rivers on its way to Victoria Falls.

Have an island stroll, kayak on the river to safari drives and walks in the Zambezi Park. Victoria falls remains a major attraction and a global tourist destination. The island with its huge trees, Nyalas, monkeys and birdlife, including the rare brilliant Schalow’s Turaco. Guests to the island include elephant and hippo.

The Chundu lodge overlooks the river, onto the park home to Africa big five with over four hundred birds species including some Pel’s owl, African finfoot and African skimmer. For the fishermen, there is bream and Tigerfish.

The lodge offers large canvas rooms with palm thatch, private day beds, a full-service bar, swimming pool, in-room massages., Activities are safaris, canoeing and cruises on barges for sunset cruises along the banks of the reserve.

Zimbabwe weather is hot in summer with temperatures reaching into the upper 30’s & dropping to 15 C, and cool to cold in winter.

The river peaks from February to July, and there is a huge plume of mist over the falls. The river is at its lowest from August to January and the right time for a dip in the Devil’s Pool. May to October are the colder months and the dryest months which is when wildlife viewing is best.

White Water Rafting is possible all year round. From January to July you can do half-day rafting from, August - December, you can do full day rafting on 19 rapids. Canoeing & sunset cruises are available all year round. Chundu Island is one of only four private lodges in Zambezi Park.
