Dining at the Elephant Plains Game Lodge

Dining at the Elephant Plains Game Lodge in Sabi Sands is an unforgettable affair presenting an excellent combination of international cuisine as well as South African specialities.
Breakfast and lunch are served in the dining room or on the outdoor swimming pool deck, overlooking the open area while dinner is around the log fire in the open air boma complemented by the mystical nocturnal sounds of the untamed African bushveld under the African sky.

The African Health Spa at the Elephant Plains Game Lodge, Sabi Sands, offers the ideal place for rest in the most natural and magnificent setting.  Guests may spoil themselves and enjoy the calming sound of music playing in the background while heavenly aromas fill the air.  The health and beauty spa consists of two treatment rooms, both of which overlook the open area in front of the Elephant Plains Game Lodge. 

The lodge's exclusive African Health Spa provides a fantastic range of spa treatments to pamper visitors from head to toe.   Guests may choose between relaxing massages, revitalising body treatments, pedicures and manicures as well as facials.  Furthermore, the Elephant Plains Game Lodge also offers fun spa options for children.

Activities, Sports & Leisure

Game drives

Guests can take part in two game drives a day, each one lasting approximately three hours. Game drives are hosted by an experienced game ranger, and local tracker and refreshments are provided.
 

Bushwalks

A daily 1-hour bushwalk takes place after breakfast each day. Guests staying at the Elephant Plains Game Lodge in Sabi Sands are accompanied by a ranger or tracker and are encouraged to adopt a closer look at animal tracks, birds, different types of grasses and trees and other small things you may not notice from a distance.

Bird watching

Guests staying at the four star Elephant Plains Game Lodge in South Africa can view over 300 bird species in the area making for an outstanding destination for bird watching enthusiasts.

Swimming

There are two swimming pools located at the Elephant Plains Game Lodge to which guests have access to.

Star-gazing

Guests are treated to a night of stargazing using the lodge's telescope with insights and explanations from Rangers who have completed relevant courses.

Malaria Status and Animals
  • The Elephant Plains Game Lodge is in a malaria area, and it is recommended that you consult your doctor before travelling. Sabi Sands is world famous for its high density of game making it one of the best safari destinations in Africa.  

    Sabi Sands, as well as the Kruger National Park, are home to the "Big Five", namely leopards, elephants, rhinos, lions, and buffaloes.
     

Children Policy
  • Children of all ages are welcome at Sabi Sand's Elephant Plains Game Lodge, and babysitting services are available. The lodge also has a structured Mini-Tuskers program for kids.

Social Responsibility
  • The Elephant Plains Game Lodge has worked with the Sabi Sand Game Reserve ecological department to put certain conservation measures in place, including the regeneration of erosion, removal of alien plant species, habitat management and off-road precautions during game drives.

Directions

The four-star Elephant Plains Game Lodge lies in the game rich Sabi Sand Game Reserve, which is part of the Greater Kruger National Park in South Africa.

Please take note that the Elephant Plains Game Lodge can only be accessed through the Gowrie Gate and not through the Newington or Shaws Gate. As there are river crossings, it is also not possible to travel within the reserve itself. The last 20km to the Elephant Plains Game Lodge is a dirt road. It is about a 45 minutes drive from the end of the tar road to the actual lodge.

Directions to the Elephant Plains Game Lodge from Lydenburg / Hoedspruit:

Take the N4 from JHB / Pretoria.
Bypass Witbank and Middelburg, continue to Belfast.
Turn left onto the R540 past Dullstroom to Lydenburg.
From Lydenburg take the R36 to Origstad.
Pass through the JG Strijdom Tunnel.
From the tunnel, continue for about 27 km before turning right to go towards Klaserie.
Continue straight along the Klaserie road until you reach a sign pointing to Orpen and The South African Wildlife College.
Turn left and continued the R531 for about 30 km until you see the entrance to The Wildlife College on your left.
Immediately after the College, you will see a small dirt track on you right-hand side, which takes you off of the tar road. Drive through the gate and follow the map as indicated.

OR

Drive past the Orpen and South African Wildlife College turn off and continue straight on until you reach Acornhoek.
Turn left at the traffic light and followed the map as indicated.

Directions to the Elephant Plains Game Lodge from Nelspruit / Hazyview / Bushbuckridge:

Take the N4 from JHB / Pretoria.
Bypass Witbank and Middelburg and carry on through to Nelspruit.
Take the R40 from Nelspruit to White River and continue for about 53 km to Hazyview.
Continue for a further 32 km to Bushbuckridge and on for another 42 km to Acornhoek.
Turn right at the traffic light and follow the map as indicated.

Directions to the Elephant Plains Game Lodge from the Orpen Gate (Kruger National Park):

Leave the Orpen Gate and continue the R531 for about 10km.
Just before you reach The South African Wildlife College on your right-hand side, you will see a dirt track on your left.
Take the dirt road.
Drive through the gate and follow the map as indicated.
