Dining at the Hoyo Hoyo Tsonga Lodge

The menus at the Hoyo Hoyo Safari Lodge in the Imbali concession of the Kruger National Park offer delicious meals.  Served with a traditional African flair, for example, breakfast over the coals, carefully balanced combining a European flair to accommodate all tastes.

Wildlife Viewing

The unique Hoyo Hoyo Lodge nestles within the Imbali Concession area of South Africa's Kruger National Park. This 10 000 hectare wilderness area provides the perfect place for adventurous game drives. Daily game drives through the 'Big Five' bushveld, romantic bush picnics, as well as champagne breakfasts, are available.

Bird watching

The large, private 10 000 hectare wilderness area where the lodge is in, provides a beautiful sanctuary for bird watching enthusiasts. Located 35 km south-east of the Orpen Gate in the central Kruger region and bordering the Manyeleti Game Reserve as well as the Sabi Sands Game Reserve, this region is home to a wide variety of great bird species.

  • The lodge lies in the malaria area within the Imbali Concession area of the Kruger National Park of South Africa. Travellers are advised to consult their doctor in regards to malaria prophylaxis. 

    The Imbali Concession is home to Africa's 'Big Five' as well as many more animals.

Children Policy
  • Children, under 12 years are not allowed at the Hoyo Hoyo Lodge, and children 12 and older are considered as adults will need to take their rooms.

The magnificent Hoyo Hoyo Tsonga Lodge in the Imbali Concession of the Kruger National Park, South Africa, features six suites which can accommodate 12 guests. These traditional Tsonga bee-hive suites accommodate guests in luxury and comfort during their stay.

All suites have air conditing which is insulated by the thatched roof. En-suite bathrooms, king size beds, outdoor showers as well as private game viewing decks are present. The fabrics, as well as the decor of the suites, originate from the local community.

Access to the Lodge by Air:

- SA Express from Johannesburg and Cape Town to Hoedspruit
- SA Airlink from Johannesburg, Cape Town, Livingstone (Zambia) and Durban to Nelspruit (KMIA Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport)
- Air service daily to the Manyeleti airstrip (8km)
- Private Charters available to private airstrip, lodge can do the transfer

Directions to the by road from the OR Tambo Johannesburg Airport:

- After departing from Johannesburg International Airport
- Take the R21 highway towards Pretoria (North)
- Before Pretoria, take the N4 highway East
- Turn off at Belfast, take the R540 towards Dullstroom (approximately 37km)
- At Dullstroom, take the R540 towards Lydenburg (approximately 43km)
- At Lydenburg, take the R36 towards Ohrigstad (approximately 62km)
- At Ohrigstad, take the R527 towards Hoedspruit (Note: You will pass through the JG Strijdom Tunnel)
- 16km before Hoedspruit at the Swadini Reptile Centre, turn right onto the R531 towards Klaserie
- After approximately 30km, turn left onto the Orpen Gate Road (R531)
- After 40km, you will reach the Orpen Gate of the Kruger National Park

Directions to the Hoyo Hoyo Tsonga Lodge from the Orpen Gate: estimated driving t ime is 2 hours

- After entering the Kruger National Park via the Orpen Gate, travel for 22kms on the H7
- Turn right on the S36 where you will see the signpost marked Imbali, Hamiltons, Hoyo-Hoyo with the exact distances
- After about 20km turn right on the S145 where it is signposted for Imbali and Hoyo-Hoyo after 3kms turn left at the no entry sign
- Drive for 3.5km where you will reach a T-junction
- Turn right to the Hoyo Hoyo Tsonga Lodge or left to Imbali Lodge

Directions from the Paul Kruger Gate to the Lodge:

- Enter Paul Kruger Gate
- Proceed toward Skukuza
- From Skukuza take the H1-2 towards Satara (32km)
- Turn left S36 (dirt road) signs will read Imbali Safari Lodge / Hoyo-Hoyo Tsonga Lodge / Hamiltons Tented Camp
- Continue S36 for 40km
- At T-junction turn left onto S125 for 1km then right S36
- Continue for 6km
- Turn left S145 for 3km
- At sign for Imbali Safari Lodge and Hoyo-Hoyo Tsonga Lodge turn left
- Travel about 4km to T-Junction turn right for Hoyo-Hoyo (4km)

Kruger National Park Gate Entry Times:

Please be aware of the gate entrance times into the Kruger National Park, these vary throughout the year depending on the season. Entrance to the Kruger National Park via the Orpen Gate should be no later than two hours before gate closure time and via Kruger Gate should be no later than three hours before gate closure times in order to reach the final destination: Hoyo Hoyo Tsonga Lodge.

Please note:
1. Speed limit
Within the Kruger National Park, drivers must please adhere to the legal speed limit of 50km per hour on tarred roads and 40km per hour on dirt roads.
2. Safety
Visitors are kindly requested to follow the Kruger National Parks safety precautions by not disembarking from vehicles unless you are in a designated area.
