Dining

Breakfast and lunch at Kapama Buffalo Camp take place under a canopy of thatch.  Weather depending, guests enjoy dinner in the traditional outdoor boma around the roaring open fire making for an authentic African-style dining experience. The mighty roar of lions, as well as the wild calls of jackals and hyenas, serve as a natural background.

Activities, Sports & Leisure

Game drives

Twice a day, guests may participate in the thrilling game drives with professional game rangers and trackers. Home to the "Big Five", the Kapama Private Game Reserve allows visitors to encounter Africa's magnificent wildlife in its natural habitat.

Walking safaris

During the exciting bush walks, guests have the chance to encounter Africa's untamed wildlife on foot and get familiar also with the smaller animals which live in the bushveld.  The armed game rangers share theirs in-depth knowledge about the region's unique flora and vegetation which include medicine plants.

Elephant Back Safaris

Instead of participating in the early morning safari, guests have the chance to meet the Kapama elephant herd.  It is here where trained elephant handlers show travellers how to get on the elephant’s back.  Each of the elephants is guided during this adventurous walk.

Hot Air Balloon Safari

What better way than to start your day with an exciting Hot Air Balloon Safari over the magnificent, African bushveld!  Watch the animals below as they walk through their natural habitat in the early morning when flights are at their best.

Swimming

A dip in the outdoor swimming pool which faces the forest makes for an excellent refreshment during the warm afternoons.  Guests are invited to relax and soak in the sunshine in between game drives and activities on the sundeck next to the swimming pool..

Spa treatments

Guests may choose relaxing health and beauty spa treatments at the Kapama Wellness Centre, which is at the Kapama River Lodge.  The natural surrounding and the tranquility make for an extraordinary safari spa experience.

The camp features a total of ten Luxury Tents which offer the ultimate safari accommodation in the Kapama Private Game Reserve.  Evoking the feeling of old Africa, each of the luxury tents features en-suite bathrooms and can accommodate two guests either with one double bed or two separate twin beds which are comfortably dressed in white cotton linen and complemented by African design throws.

Air conditioning is available for the warm summer days and nights while heated under blankets keep one warm and cosy during the colder winter months.  Additional comfort is accessible by the well-stocked minibar, the Nespresso coffee machine as well as the lock-up safe.  The wooden floors create the nostalgic tents flair, the use of leather and dark wood finishes.

Directions

Directions from Johannesburg to the Kapama Buffalo Camp:

Take either the N12 or the N4 from Johannesburg to eMalahleni and Middelburg.
Turn onto the R540 towards eMakhazeni, Emnotweni and Mashishing. Emnotweni is on the Highveld and is an ideal point for exploring the region.
The village has a quaint atmosphere and is famous for its trout fishing, and is a good halfway or lunch stops on the way to Kapama Private Game Reserve.
From Mashishing, proceed on the R36 to Ohrigstad, and through the Strydom Tunnel to Hoedspruit.
This scenic drive through Mpumalanga takes in magnificent mountain landscapes and panoramic views - as you drive up the mountain passes onto the high escarpment, you will have sweeping vistas of the Lowveld down below. At the Strydom Tunnel, roadside stalls sell ethnic curios from the area.
From Hoedspruit, take the R40 to Klaserie and continue until you reach the Kapama Private Game Reserve entrance on the left.
