Game Drives or Walking Safaris

Kichaka's experienced game rangers ensure exceptional game sightings during the safaris on the 7,500 hectare game reserve in the malaria-free Eastern Cape of South Africa.  Excellent encounters of lion, elephant, rhino and buffalo, as well as cheetah, hippo, giraffe, hyena, zebra, warthog and numerous species of antelope are enjoyed on game drives across the open plains of the reserve.

The thrilling night game drives at Kichaka offer an excellent opportunity to star gaze in wonder at the Southern Hemisphere's Milky Way and identify Orion's Belt, The Southern Cross and Scorpio with the guidance of the experienced rangers.

Guests have the chance to arrange a Cosmic Safari and view the wonders of space with the high powered telescope. On the night drives, the elusive aardvark, aardwolf and other nocturnal game are often seen.

Large herds of plains game, including eland, gemsbok, springbok, wildebeest and zebra among others, are enjoyed on the Kichaka Game Reserve, which boasts diverse vegetation including 5 Biomes: savanna grassland, valley bushveld, fynbos, riverine forest and acacia woodland. Hippos regularly reside in the waterhole at the Kichaka Lodge and sightings can be enjoyed from the comfort of the viewing deck.

Swimming

Guests at the Kichaka Lodge are welcome to relax and swim in the rim-flow pool which is adjacent to the waterhole where the hippos wallow. Sun, cocktails and glorious views can be enjoyed on the large pool terrace.

Each of the ten exclusive suites at the Kichaka Lodge in the Eastern Cape of South Africa has been built to provide every amenity, attention to detail ensures comfort and luxury.

The suites offer complete privacy and spaciousness which are connected to the main lodge by walkways, which wind through the bush. Particular care has been taken to provide spectacular views from the lounge, bedroom, and bathroom of each suite at the Kichaka Lodge.

The rooms at Kichaka features a lounge area with large glass sliding doors on two sides which open wide, making these rooms part of the surrounding bush. Each climate controlled suite boasts a large viewing deck and private heated plunge pool.

Available amenities include the fully-stocked bar fridge, telephone and free internet access and 24 hour room service. State of the art air-conditioning and underfloor heating provide year-round comfort, and the bathrooms have both shower and bath facilities.

Directions

The Kichaka Lodge is just over one hour from Port Elizabeth airport.

Directions from Port Elizabeth Airport 110km:
1. Leave the airport turn left at the traffic circle
2. Continue to the railway line and turn right at the traffic lights (Heugh Rd)
3. Continue straight to the last traffic lights at the bottom of the hill
4. Turn left and followed the N2 towards Grahamstown for 100 km
4. Turn left at the Kichaka sign
5. Continue 3,5 km on the gravel road
6. You will arrive at the Kichaka Lodge gate on your left
7. Proceed up the road to the reception area where Kichaka Staff will meet you.
