Wildlife activities
Through a variety of activities the guest is introduced to the Lion Sands Pride, the story behind their names, their characters, habits and family structure. The activities are all catered for in a convenient and flexible environment and include the following: Open Land Rover game drives, interpretive bush walks, bird watching walks, lion tracking walks and river fishing (including Tiger Fish).

Ivory Lodge Suite

Lion Sands River Lodge & Ivory Lodge are exclusive in their pristine location overlooking the magnificent Sabie River. Ivory Lodge is different to River Lodge in its exclusivity. For the traveller who is looking for a more secluded & private experience, Ivory Lodge is the recommended camp.

The Lodge has been built on the banks of the Sabie River with magnificent views, extending onto the open sand banks of the Kruger National Park. There are luxurious suites with an en-suite bathroom, outdoor & inside shower, courtyard, lounge with fireplace, wooden viewing deck, patio & private plunge pool. The bedroom & bathroom area are air-conditioned with overhead fans. All rooms have telephone and internet access. The suites are 165 square meters in size and are positioned at least 20 meters apart, being linked to all areas by raised wooden walkways. They all have breathtaking views over the Sabie River, a setting where game viewing from the luxury of one's private suite, Africa's finest.

The reception building is apart from the main lodge, ensuring that guests arrive and depart without compromising the privacy of the lodge experience. The main lodge & entrance building comprises of a private lounge & bar, wooden viewing decks, board-room, wine cellar, gymnasium & health spa, curio shop & both an indoor and open-air dining area. Simple and uncluttered, the interiors achieve a contemporary, Afro-European elegance. It is a bold, yet balanced ambience that juxtaposes colour, texture and form. There's an overriding exclusivity, with complete privacy.

River Lodge: Luxury Room

The River Lodge is on the banks of the Sabie River. It faces due east, catching the sun as it rises over the Kruger National Park. There are luxurious thatched bedrooms with en-suite bathroom, outdoor & inside shower & wooden viewing deck. The bedroom area is air-conditioned with an overhead fan.

The lodge comprises the following: a private lounge and bar, two swimming pools, wooden viewing decks, a secluded bird hide, private hammocks, conferenceroom, gymnasium & health spa, curio shop & both an indoor and open-air dining area.

River Lodge is the soul of Lion Sands and is on a site with trees dating back 800 years. The lodge is about spirit, warmth, nature & relaxation. It is hosted by a family of staff that will make it feel like a home from home.

River Suite

The River Suites offer added privacy as they are situated further away from the lodge's public areas. Magnificent river views can be enjoyed from this superb safari accommodation.  Also, the River Suites feature outdoor showers which make for a unique bushveld experience.

Directions

Recommended route to the Lion Sands Private Game Reserve from Johannesburg (6 hours):

Take the N12/N4 highway from the Gauteng region towards Emalahleni (formerly known as Witbank) / Middleburg and further on to Mbombela (previously known as Nelspruit);
Upon arrival into Mbombela, follow the R40 from Mbombela through to White River and on to Hazyview;
At the T-junction between Kiepersol and Hazyview, turn left onto the R538, which will take you into the town of Hazyview.
At the 2nd traffic lights with a shopping centre on the right-hand side, turn right onto the R536 towards Paul Kruger Gate (Kruger National Park).
After 38km turn left onto a gravel road which is signposted to Lion Sands.
Drive along the gravel road for approximately 4km. At the T-junction turn right and drive for a further 4km to Shaws Gate, the entrance to the Sabi Sand Wildtuin.
Note there is an Entrance Fee payable so please check with Reservations as to what the current fee is as it is subject to change from time to time. They do take credit cards so don't worry about travelling with cash.

- Please remember, the animals have the right of way, and the speed limit in the Reserve is 30km/h. Should you encounter some of our residents on the road, enjoy the sight and allow them to pass before continuing along your route.
- Follow the signposted route to Lion Sands, after approximately 2km turn right at the Lion Sands sign.
- Follow the path to either River Lodge or Ivory Lodge. You will encounter a control gate closer to the lodge. Please sign in and enjoy a unique welcome.
- WELCOME, well done and ahead lies a great few days on safari, so time to relax and we will take care of everything from here on in!
- Please contact Lion Sands Gem lodge when you arrive in Hazyview so we know you are close by and even better if you could phone us when you leave so we know what time to expect you. This will allow us to keep a check and make sure you get in safely.
