In Africa’s largest mountain rainforest, the great One&Only Nyungwe House Nyungwe Forest Reserve, Rwanda, nestles in a paradise for primates.
One and Only Nyungwe is situated in Gisakura bordering the Nyungwe National Park, which is a working tea plantation, the Nyungwe Forest represents the largest mountain rainforest in Africa. It is home to over 13 different species of primates, which represent 20% of all apes in Africa.
Nyungwe lodge in Rwanda offers a total of 22 Luxury Rooms which are in six wooden villas. In addition to this room type, the inn also offers two exclusive and spacious Presidential Suites which are in separate villas. One of the Presidential Suites features a Jacuzzi. The boma is a dining area which is fenced by wood featuring tables and chairs around an open fire. The restaurant offers the private terrace, the tea lounge as well as the bar. The delicious breakfasts, lunches and dinners are served in different locations in and around the lodge.
The activities on offer during a stay at this mountain rain forest retreat all revolve around being outdoors and trekking in the National Park. These informative walks are tailored to individual requirements; the guided walks last between 1 to 7 hours. Amongst the most favourite trekking tours is chimpanzee trekking, grey-cheeked mangabey trekking and white and black colobus monkey trekking.
Furthermore, a visit to the Kamiranzovu Swamps as well as the Waterfall walks is highly recommended as well. Cultural walks and bird watching tours are also available.
From the One and Only Nyungwe, guests can enjoy a beautiful 5.3km walk to the Izumo waterfall which lies about 2 hours away. Travellers have the opportunity to visit the tea factory and learn about the process of withering, cutting, tearing and curling, fermentation, drying as well as sorting, storing and packing.
The Nyungwe Forest National Park nestles in the South-Western region of Rwanda. Located south of Lake Kivu on the border to Burundi, this national park was established in 2004 covering about 970 square kilometres of natural bamboo, rainforest, grassland and swamps. The Nyungwe Forest National Park forms one of the oldest forests on the African continent and represents one of the few remaining rain forest mountain habitats.
Despite its remoteness, access to this great rainforest lodge is convenient. Flights to Rwanda are available from Africa's and Europe's major cities such as Nairobi, Entebbe, Brussels and Paris. Airlines which fly to Rwanda are SN Brussels, Alliance Express/Alliance Air, Ethiopian Airlines, Kenya Airways and Air Tanzania. The international flights land at the Kanombe Airport which is 10 kilometres away from central Kigali.
Rwanda has one of the best road infrastructures in East Africa. The countries major centres are interlinked with bus services, although these can be unreliable at times. Rwanda does not offer any railways. However, many small airports are located throughout the country making remote destinations easily accessible by chartered flights. Travellers may use chartered flights or transfers in 4×4 vehicles between Rwanda's destinations and lodges.
