An excellent three-course dinner, which consists of a combination of South African and European meals, is served in the African boma under the stars around a log fire. Professional game rangers take guests daily in the early morning and late afternoon game drives through the untamed African bushveld.  For the adventure seekers, bush walks can also be enjoyed.  Unforgettable "Big Five: game drives in the bordering, game rich Thornybush Game Reserve can also be arranged for guests.

Furthermore, full day visits with an experienced ranger are available for visits to the world famous Kruger National Park. The Orpen Gate is only forty minutes away from the Pezulu Tree House Game Lodge.

The famous Moholoholo Rehabilitation Centre can be reached from Pezulu within forty minutes. This educational centre provides shelter for many of South Africa’s injured, abandoned and poisoned wildlife.

Day Itinerary

A typical day at the Pezulu Tree House Game Lodge begins with an early morning wake up call at around 5 or 6 am.  The exact time depends on the season. Guests then head out into the bush in an open 4x4 safari vehicle.

Experienced rangers share their knowledge of the African bush with the travellers.  On Pezulu's 'Big 3" game drives, guests may observe rhinos, buffaloes, giraffes, cheetahs, zebras, warthogs, a variety of different antelopes, ostriches, birds and if one is lucky leopards and hyenas can also be encountered here.

During the "Big Five" game drives one can see elephants and lions.  Guests may enjoy a relaxing spot in the bush for tea and coffee accompanied by biscuits.  After the exciting game drives, guests return to the lodge for a hearty brunch.

The early afternoons are spent at leisure either in the comfort of the room, on the private balcony reading a book, listening to the sounds of the bush or relaxing at the swimming pool.

Delicious high tea at the Pezulu Game Lodge is served at around 3 pm before guests head out for the late afternoon/evening game drive.

The sunset can be admired with the view of the northern Drakensberg Mountains with snacks, and refreshing drinks are provided.  The game drive is continued after this break in the search for nocturnal animals.

Guests return to the lodge at around 7 pm.  After some time to freshen up, guests may enjoy an aperitif in the original treetop bar before the delicious dinner is provided by a log fire in the lodge's traditional boma.

The accommodation at the Pezulu Tree House Game Lodge in South Africa consists of eight reed and thatch tree houses which can accommodate up to twenty-five guests in total.  Each of these magnificent tree houses is different and has been designed to fit perfectly into the environment.

All the Standard Tree Houses have a bedroom with a double bed as well as a separate bathroom with toilet and open-air shower (some also have a bath). Also, they all have a large, private balcony overlooking the bush.

The Pezulu Tree House Game Lodge in South Africa also features three family tree houses which can accommodate a family with up to 5 children.  One or two additional beds can also be placed in the parents’ bedroom for very young children who prefer to share the room with their parents.  It is especially the children who love the tree houses at Pezulu!

Drunken Parrot (Honeymoon Treehouse)

The specially designed Honeymoon Tree House is five meters off the ground in a Huilboerboon tree, split into two levels.  This gorgeous tree house at Pezulu is spacious and fitted with a king size bed, a lounge area, bathroom and a sunken bath from where views over the bushveld can be admired.  Guests are invited to relax in the heart of nature in this honeymoon suite, the hanging chairs on the balcony provide an excellent place to do so.

Mountain View (Luxury Tree House)

The 7 metre high Mountain View Tree House at Pezulu is built in a Jackalberry tree consisting of a spacious bedroom featuring a king-size bed and a separate bathroom with a Jacuzzi bath. The outside bathroom provides of this Tree House offers an outdoor shower which is surrounded by branches and leaves making for a unique experience. From the balcony, the most scenic views of the northern Drakensberg Mountains can be admired.

Marula (Luxury Family Tree House)

The Marula Suite is used as a Family tree house for big families of 5 – 6 people because it is the most spacious tree house with its two spacious bedrooms, two bathrooms and two large balconies.

Dream (Luxury Honeymoon TreeHouse)

The luxurious and romantic Dream Tree House at Pezulu has been constructed on two Marula trees.  It consists of a spacious main bedroom, a welcoming lounge and a bathroom which is fitted with a Jacuzzi bath.  A separate walkway leads to the twin outdoor shower.

The comfortable king size bed is on wheels which allow guests to sleep either inside or outside on the patio under the stars.  From the Dream Tree House's large balcony guests enjoy spectacular views of the African savannah and a waterhole.

Directions to the Pezulu Tree House Game Lodge from Johannesburg:

- From Johannesburg, proceed East along the N4 passing Witbank and Middleburg
- Turn left onto the R540 in Belfast.
- From Belfast move through Dullstroom to Lydenburg.
- From Lydenburg take the R36 to Ohrigstad.
- Stay on this road passing through the Strijdom Tunnel.
- Keep on this road for 29 km until you see the sign for Swadini / Orpen.
- Turn right here and continue for 32 km.
- Turn left at the sign for Orpen and continued 2.5 km until you see the sign for Guernsey.
- Go through the Control Gate and drive for 8.5 km until you see the Guernsey Private Nature Reserve sign on your right.
- Turn inside here and continue for about 2 km until you reach the reserve gate.
- Finally, follow the Pezulu signs.

Directions from the Orpen Gate, Kruger National Park:

- Stay on the R531 for about 40 km.
- Turn right when you see the sign for Guernsey.
- Go through the Control gate and drive for 8.5 km until you see the Guernsey Private Nature Reserve sign on your right.
- Turn inside here and continue for about 2 km until you reach the reserve gate.
- Finally, follow the Pezulu signs.

Directions from Hoedspruit to the Pezulu Tree House Game Lodge:

- Head South on the R40 towards Whiteriver.
- After 23 km turn left when you see the Guernsey sign (just after the Cheetah Project).
- Go through the Control gate and continue this road for about 11 km (road becomes dirt half way).
- When you reach the end of this road, turn right.
- After about 4 km you will see the Guernsey Private Nature Reserve sign on your left.
- Turn inside here and continue for about 2 km until you reach the reserve gate.
- Follow the Pezulu signs.

Directions to the Pezulu Tree House Game Lodge from Nelspruit:

- Take the R40 towards White River.
- Continue the R40 towards Hazyview, Bushbuckridge, Acornhoek.
- Continue straight on the R 40 till you see the sign for Orpen (R531).
- Turn right and continue for 2,5 km until you see the Guernsey sign.
- Turn left and went through the Control Gate. Drive for 8,5 km till you see the Guernsey Private Nature Reserve sign on your right side.
- Turn inside here and continue for about 2 km until you reach the reserve gate.
- Finally, follow the Pezulu signs.

The nearest airport is Eastgate, which is situated about 30 minutes away from the Pezulu Tree House Game Lodge.
South African Airways offers daily flights from Johannesburg to the Eastgate Airport.
