Activities, Sports & Leisure

Game drives

Travellers staying at this lodge in the Kruger National Park have the opportunity to participate in the early morning and evening games drives.  Safaris are conducted in open Landcruisers and are guided by professional rangers.

In addition to the 12,000-hectare concession, the lodge has the exclusive use of some of the Kruger National Park public roads at night.  SANparks provides the Rhino Post Safari Lodge with the added advantage of being able to make use of 170km roads within the park after gate closing time.  After this period, no self-drive tourists may be in the park.

Golf

Besides wildlife activities, golfers may enjoy outings to the Skukuza Golf course. The Kruger National Park is home to this unique 9-hole golf course (18 tees) which is located in proximity to the Skukuza Rest Camp.

Swimming

Guests may refresh in between game drives in the lodge's outdoor swimming pool which is beautifully set overlooking the bushveld.

Bird watching

The Kruger National Park in South Africa is home to more than 500 bird species, some of which are not found anywhere else in the world.   Rhino Walking Safaris provides travellers with tailor-made packages including a special birding safari.  Bird watching enthusiasts can look forward to admiring the 'Big Six': Ground Hornbill, Kori Bustard, Lappet-faced Vulture, Martial Eagle, Pel’s Fishing Owl and the Saddle-bill Stork.

In addition to these, Hornbills, Starlings, Vultures, Rollers, Bee-eaters and Shrikes make this region of South Africa a prime birdwatching area. Raptor viewing is extremely rewarding with Bateleur, Martial, Black-breasted Snake, Brown Snake, African Hawk, African Fish and Tawny Eagles seen regularly. In summer birders can spot the Wahlberg, Steppe and Lesser Spotted.

Sleep Outs

An unrivalled wilderness experience can be included during a stay at this magnificent game lodge in the Kruger Park.  The Rhino Post Safari Lodge & Rhino Walking Safaris offer Sleep Outs which must be arranged during the reservation process.  When booking a Sleep Out from Rhino Post, travellers depart on their afternoon drive after high tea and before the sun sets they will arrive at the Sleep Outs.  After being shown around the structure, guests choose their platforms and the guide will light a cooking fire.

The Sleep Out platforms overlook a magnificent waterhole where the sunset can be admired whilst sipping a refreshing sundowner.  While the guide prepares a traditional South African braai on an open fire, guests may relax and enjoy the sounds and senses of the African Bush as the night sets in.

After dinner guests retire to their individual platform and enjoy sleeping under the star studded sky.  The rumble of an elephant passing by or the roar of a lion at the nearby waterhole, are the only noises which might disturb guests in this peaceful bushveld. After a light snack the next morning, guests depart back to the Rhino Post Safari Lodge for a hearty brunch.
