Dining at the Simbavati Hilltop Lodge

Before departing on the thrilling early morning game drive, guests enjoy a cup of coffee and tea with rusks.  After the safari, breakfast is served outside on the wooden deck.

Guests are served a light lunch just before the afternoon game drive.  Dinner at the Simbavati Hilltop Lodge is a festive event which is alternatively served around the campfire in the open-air boma or the thatched dining area of the lodge.  A great variety of different African and Western cuisine is available for dinner with exciting tastes for the more adventurous as well as conventional options.

The bar offers alcoholic beverages and also provides an excellent selection of local South African wines.  Special dietary requirements of guests are catered for subject to prior notification.

Swimming Pool

The lodge has a beautiful outdoor, infinity swimming pool located in the central lodge area from where incredible views of the surrounding landscape can be admired.  The pool provides the perfect place to keep cool while maintaining a lookout for passing wildlife.

Game Viewing

Guests at the lodge enjoy two game activities per day, each of which lasts about 3 hours.  The Timbavati Private Game Reserve is home to over 40 mammal species including the 'Big 5', namely lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant and rhino.  For bird watching enthusiasts, there are over 360 bird species.  While on safari guests can see the white lion in its natural habitat.

The Simbavati Lodge provides game activities in the early mornings and the evenings when the game is most active.  The thrilling same drives through the reserve are conducted by experienced field guides and trackers in open 4x4 vehicles, also allowing guests excellent photographic opportunities.   

Safari guests traverse over 12,000 hectares of the 'Big 5' game country, with lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo as well as other species such as kudu, zebra, warthog, giraffe, monkey to name a few.  Nocturnal animals, which include the big cats, are regularly seen on the night drives. Bird viewing in the Timbavati Private Game Reserve is spectacular, with over 360 recorded species including various eagles, vultures, kingfishers, woodpeckers, buzzards, herons, egrets, owls, weavers.

Accommodation at the Simbavati Hilltop Lodge is available for a total of 16 guests who are accommodated in pavilion-style safari-tents.  This unique safari accommodation is complete with an en-suite bathroom as well as an outdoor shower.

The Luxury Safari Tents are widely spread out in the bushveld to ensure privacy and to enjoy lovely views of the surrounding bush and adjacent river (or river bed).

As the terrain is quite steep in some places, please advise the lodge should you have impaired mobility or have special requirements in this regard.

Directions

The Simbavati Hilltop Lodge is about a 7-hour drive from Johannesburg and Pretoria.
Guests are to follow the signs to the Simbavati River Lodge while the lodge is busy completing the concrete crossing to the Simbavati Hilltop Lodge.

When using a GPS, please do not type in Simbavati River Lodge into your GPS.
The GPS will pick the lodge name up but will try and direct you to the Kruger National Park, which is not the correct direction.

The Simbavati Hilltop Lodge cannot be accessed through the Kruger National Park but only through the Timbavati Gate as per the directions below.

Directions to the Simbavati Hilltop Lodge:
Follow the tar road from the Eastgate Airport/Timbavati turn-off for 44 km straight to the Simbavati turn-off. (
Turn right onto the dirt road and follow the lion footprints for approximately 6.4 km to the lodge.
On the tar road, you will go through 2 control gates.
At the second gate, you enter the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve where you will pay a Vehicle Entrance Fee per vehicle.
Keep your permit, as the Lodge will issue you with an exit permit when you return again.

Critical:
Please do not arrive at the lodge late, as you will then miss the afternoon/evening game drive and lunch, which is not served later than 16h00.
It is also safer not to drive in the reserve and arrive at the lodge when it is dark.
If you are going to be late due to unforeseen circumstances, please call the lodge.
